This is a very good book for people who are unfamiliar with the research process. It steps the student through the rationale of doing research in the social sciences and the step by step approach to building up the research capability that masters or early doctoral students will need.� It does not cover some areas of the foundations of research, for example the philosophy behind conducting this type of research and, therefore this would have to be supplemented by other texts.� However, I have added this to our reading list and would recommend it particularly to those who have been out of academia for a while and have not conducted empirical research in the past. Dr Ranjit Kumar taught at Curtin University of Technology and the University of Western Australia for 30 years. He is currently a freelance research and evaluation consultant in Western Australia.

you need this book in your life!!

If you haven't done research before, this is a great textbook to have as reference! I just recently finished my research methodology class, and the book was required, and used it as towards my final presentation and paper, helped out in so many ways! Also if your thinking of graduated school, this is a great textbook to have in class, if you need to refresh on your research skills!

Very helpful book for beginners who are looking to write research papers. I needed this book for a transfer class and it really helped me with my 15 page research paper. Got the A I was aiming for :) definitely worth the purchase!

Typical college textbook

Not a reader friendly text, but the content is well organized. Some topics are covered extensively while others skimmed. Will need to take breaks when reading for comprehension.
