Great Information in Book! Sometimes Hard to Understand

I bought this book for one of my college classes. This book tries to help teach you about many different complex tax concepts and gain an understanding of today's ever-changing tax legislation. This book is very comprehensive because the further you read into it, everything build on itself. If you don't understand the beginning things in the book, you are going to have a hard time understanding the rest of the book. Don't get me wrong, this book is a very effective solution for helping you try to understand individual taxation, C corporations, taxes on financial statements, and flow-through.

Some things that I found super helpful in this book are the ""Big Picture"" examples, memorable tax scenarios, and ""What If?"" case variations, clarify some concepts taught in this book.

A compatriot (and friend) of the late Reyner Banham challenges the American addiction to cars, and shows how they do it better in Curitiba, Hanover, and Portland, WA (to pick three of his many examples). It's a brilliant analysis of how things work in the real world and the promise of new technologies. Mandatory reading for Angelenos; buy an extra copy and try to instill a sense of guilt in a student driving her trophy SUV.

Wow! Color me impressed - again! What an absolute delight! Alien Lover is the second fabulous release in Sadie Carter's exciting new Zerconian Warrior Series and it still totally rocks! Although there is a good bit of backstory included in this book, I would not suggest it to be read as a standalone but rather as a continuation after having read Alien Warrior, the first book of the series. Neither of the books end in a cliffhanger but do end with a happy for now with more to come. This series is my first time reading Carter's work but from what I understand, this is her first foray into the world of science fiction and I for one, hope she continues! The story is imaginative, exciting, original, humorous, romantic and arousing. I've found her books to be well crafted, well written, well formatted, well edited and an absolute pleasure to read. The dialogue is smart, captivating and flows effortlessly. The characters are unique, well developed, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. The narrative is written in the third person with alternating points of view from the female and male protagonists of the story. My favorite! I absolutely loved the cover as well as the premise of the story and especially loved the snappy, seductive banter, interaction and obvious chemistry between the hero and heroine. If you love fun-filled, fast-paced science fiction adventure filled to the brim with heart-pounding drama, heart-stopping danger, adorable humor and steamy dreamy romance, then you will adore this book. No spoilers from me but I will say this....Handsome, hunky, alpha alien warrior and crown prince who has finally found his true mate, a beautiful human from earth but has no clue how to 'control' her-check! Sassy, kindhearted, stubborn female earther who has quite literally found her prince but has no idea how to act like a princess and is a true champion for all underdogs and strays-check! A strange alien pet-check! An unexpected new ally and bodyguard-check! A cast of wonderful characters-check! Danger, drama and an evil alien villain-check! Side-splitting humor, heated attraction, fiery passion and dreamy sex-check! That and a whole lot more! The best compliment I can give an author is to recommend, purchase and read another of their books. So, do I recommend Sadie Carter? You bet! Will I read her next book??? Darn straight I will! Deliciously cute, fabulously funny, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining. I loved it! Bring on Book Three Sadie Carter!

Wish these were a lot longer (like a full novel) as I loved Zoey and Dax!!! Cannot wait for the next one and hopefully there will be more Zarconian stories where we will visit these 2 again.

Excellent story, funny & exciting!

Excellent story, great characters and superb writing from Miss Carter. Zoey is still amazingly funny & I love that she's take action type of heroine . Dex is still the alpha male who wants to love & especially protect Zoey despite her best efforts. I really love Giz, introduced near the end of the first book, Alien Warrior. The newest character Boris introduced in Alien Lover was added bonus. I am hoping by the third book Alien Mate, Miss Carter will explain the origins of both these characters.
After an attack by a race called the Coizils, some of Dex's warriors were imprisoned or enslaved when their escape shuttles landed in non friendly territory. Searching for these missing warriors brings the story to the planet Musin. During a shopping trip on the planet Zoey is accosted by troll and ends up, to Dex's horror, buying a sex slave! Alien Lover is funny, exciting and very sweet. The intimate scenes between Dex and Zoey are HOT! So many questions for the next book due out in December: what is Giz? what is Bishop's story? and will Dex's parents accept Zoey? I am looking forward to Alien Mate and more stories of other Zerconian warriors like Macon, Koran and Thor.

A book of plans for browsing

As others have noted, this book is actually a reprint of an old collection of plans. The techniques used in construction are very traditional; no plywood, epoxy or synthetic bedding compunds found here. It's not a beginner's book, either, although a careful craftsman could probably build the first one or two boats with a little thought.
But even if you never built any of these boats-- and I suspect most who buy the book fall into this category-- this volume is still a wonderful addition to the bookshelf. I bought my copy before I knew anything about boat construction, and the more I learn, the more I enjoy casually thumbing through it. At the price, it's a bargain; I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in boat design, or traditional construction, or who just likes looking at boat plans.

A fun, old book, but not a practical how-to guide.

I enjoyed the book and agree with the reviewer who said it is a must for anyone's collections. The book is not, however, what, from the title and the reviews, I believed it would be. This is not a practical guide for novice boat builders.
This how-to guide is an unabridged republication of a book originally published in 1934. Much of the advice is dated. Sixteen horsepower outboards are no longer suitable for racing boats. To build a stream box, it is no longer practical to look for an old "stove boiler" (whatever that is) abandoned on a vacant lot. The author never mentions power tools. And the section on legal requirements for a new boat bears a publisher's footnote indicating that the information has not been updated in 65 years and may no longer be right. The author also assumes that the reader already has extensive knowledge about boats. For example, it seems that almost every board and plank on a boat has a unique name to boat builders, and the author uses those terms throughout the book, but nowhere does he provide a diagram of a boat with all of the various parts labeled.
I enjoyed reading this book the same way that I enjoy reading old newspapers: as a snapshot of the past and as a work that occasionally provides new insights. I imagine that an experienced boat builder could find much in the book that is useful, and at a bargain price. This is not, however, a practical how-to guide, at least not for novices.

No, you won't become an accomplished boat builder simply by picking up this little book, or any other for that matter. Respect this beauty for it's glimpse at tradition provided by an underappreciated master of a dying trade.
This book includes lines and offsets for 16 boats. Good boats. Where can one find plans for a stunning example of a 125 class step hydro, or a well proportioned little full keel sloop for the paltry sum of the cover price of this book? Only getting started? Check out the pram, the punt, or the skiffs.
Monk's designs are relevant even in these days of design software and chopper guns. If you are an aspiring boatbuilder, this book can help you to learn respect for the old timers and their ways. If you're an accomplished boat builder in search of a worthwhile project, this book provides many. All of these designs are adaptable to current methods and materials by the experienced builder.
A wonderful design compilation. Get a different book to learn how to sharpen those shiny new chisels. Enjoy.

About the Author
Richard L. Daft, Ph.D., is the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Professor of Management and Principal Senior Lecturer in the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, where he specializes in the study of leadership and organization theory. Dr. Daft is a fellow of the Academy of Management and has served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, and Journal of Management Education. He was associate editor-in-chief of Organization Science and associate editor of Administrative Science Quarterly. Dr. Daft has authored or co-authored 13 books, including The Executive and the Elephant, Organization Theory and Design, and Management. He also has authored dozens of scholarly articles, papers, and chapters, and he has published in the Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management; Accounting, Organizations and Society, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, and Organizational Behavior Teaching Review. This book provides different leadership styles and which are the most effective in an organization; which leadership style will lead to more success than failure within an organization. The book provides details explaining how bad leadership can negatively affect an organization, especially if you hold a leadership position. There are quizzes to help you decide what style of leadership you have and stories from people in leadership positions, what they wish they knew and what they think you should know. Great book and a good resource you will use repeatedly.

Interesting Book

I rented this for one of my college classes and read a lot out of it for class. It was pretty interesting compared to some other textbooks I have had to read for class. I really enjoyed some real-life examples which can be hard to do with a texrbook. I think it's good that this textbook tries to teach information that can be used in a career instead of just teaching what you need to know to pass the class with a passing grade.

This book provided so much information based on leadership and management things that I would not have known and or considered. It provided me with information on things that I made need to change look at and view differently. Situations I will also do and it handled differently. The book covered a lot of valuable information I just wish there was a little more Dialogue on the aspect of respect and a workplace.

This is a very good book for people who are unfamiliar with the research process. It steps the student through the rationale of doing research in the social sciences and the step by step approach to building up the research capability that masters or early doctoral students will need.� It does not cover some areas of the foundations of research, for example the philosophy behind conducting this type of research and, therefore this would have to be supplemented by other texts.� However, I have added this to our reading list and would recommend it particularly to those who have been out of academia for a while and have not conducted empirical research in the past. you need this book in your life!!

If you haven't done research before, this is a great textbook to have as reference! I just recently finished my research methodology class, and the book was required, and used it as towards my final presentation and paper, helped out in so many ways! Also if your thinking of graduated school, this is a great textbook to have in class, if you need to refresh on your research skills!

first 110 pages are gold

I strongly recommend this book, but I want to say a few things. I think I have an above average understanding of Hegel and I found the first 100 pages difficult. In the first 110 pages, Williams defines the concept of "recognition". this is the most important part of the book. Take your time, study this section slowly. He doesn't take short-cuts; so there is a ton of information. The next 100 pages deal with "morality", and the remainder of the book deals with "ethical; substance". this is post-graduate level, intelligent writing. Williams opens a concept that usually doesn't get detailed analysis. I took my time and reaped the benefit. Tremendous book. Get it for sure.

About the Author
Wayne Kilcollins is currently the lead instructor for the Wind Power Technology program at Northern Maine Community College. For more than 25 years, he has worked in electrical components manufacturing and related industries for companies such as Bell Labs, Control Devices, First Technology, and GE Wind Energy. Over the course of his career, his responsibilities have included research and development for underwater applications of fiber optic communication systems, design and development of electromechanical circuit protection devices, and training of electrical and maintenance technicians with troubleshooting of automated assembly equipment. He also has extensive experience with Wind PowerTechnology, including wind turbine and maintenance. Throughout his career, Wayne Kilcollins has played an active role in promoting workforce development through the American Wind Energy Association's Education Working Group, Maine Wind Industry Initiative, and Maine Gubernatorial Renewable Energy Mission to Europe.
