A clear, concise, and very handy Latin Grammar

Intelligently organized and formatted, this Latin grammar is an excellent resource for beginning and intermediate Latin students. In his preface, the author states that he intends the book to supersede the classic Latin grammar written by Benjamin Hall Kennedy. I'm not familiar with that work, apparently a mainstay of British Latin students for generations. My own acquaintance is with the grammars of American Latinists such as Bennett, Gildersleeve, Hadley, and Allen & Greenough.
The author has wisely chosen to leave out cumbersome, needless detail. Instead, clarity and simplicity are everywhere in abundance. Each section describing a specific grammatical point begins with examples of the construction -- if an analogue exists -- in English. In an age where students' knowledge of basic English grammar can no longer be taken for granted, this is a useful feature indeed.
Arguably the best feature of the book is the way in which grammar points are illustrated by short, easily comprehensible Latin sentences in bold type, with accompanying translations. To his credit, Morwood has studiously avoided the approach found in grammars of yesteryear, viz., using much longer sentences pulled out of classical Latin authors such as Caesar or Cicero to illustrate even the most simple grammatical rule.
The value of the book for teachers is enhanced by the inclusion in each chapter of practice sentences in both Latin (some of which are from classical authors) and English. Separate English-Latin and Latin-English vocabularies at the back of the book are designed to accompany the practice exercises. There is also a "reference grammar" overview of the verb system, bordered with a grey margin for ease of reference. The book also contains a very handy Glossary of Grammatical Terms.
In all, a splendid little book of enormous utility; highly recommended for those seeking a clearly written and easy to understand treatment of basic Latin grammar.

Short and sweet

This is not a course in Latin but on the other hand it is not a reference grammar either. As the introduction says, "it aims to be a 'primer' (a first book) and at the same time something more than that." In fact, it is a short introduction to all the major grammatical points of the language as well as a handy reference for the accidence, without covering all the fine points you would expect to find in a true reference grammar like Gildersleeve. I particularly like the convenient groupings of things like place words (ubi, hic, illic, inde, etc.) and some of the confusing adverbs and conjunctions like quidem, quin, quominus, and quamuis (not quamvis, note; the letter "v" is not used in this book). There are a few short exercises, but no keys. Appendices cover dates, money, Roman names, literary terms, and weights and measures. A short vocabulary includes only words used in the exercises. All in all, a surprising amount of information is packed into less than 200 pages, yet the book does not feel at all dense or cramped.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! First off, I think its pretty great that its in the same universe as Jockstrap Bandit. Loved seeing some familiar characters appear. Not only that, the story paints such a vivid picture when reading it I could help but lose myself in the first couple pages. Argus may also be kind of be a hunky dreamboat with paddle, so that helped. Totally would read again and Ive already suggested it to many of my friends.

The Perfect Mix of Sexy and Entertaining!

This story was excellent! I was curious to see how it would hold up since spanking isn't my #1 interest. It did not disappoint! The balance between story and sexy was perfect, with not so much emphasis on spanking that I got worn out but enough spanking that it was true to the title. I loved all the characters and the setting. I loved the way the werewolves were portrayed! This story isn't your typical fantasy story and I really appreciated that change of pace. An excellent read I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good, sexy fantasy with great writing!

A surprisingly fun little tale that delivers exactly what it says on the [silver] tin.

I confess that I know of no other published tales involving a fantasy twist on the kink of spanking with a heavy focus on taming beastly wolf men - even for gay erotica, such a notion obviously caters to a very particular taste - but I struggle to imagine how much this niche was well worth filling if Argus the Werewolf Spanker had not been penned. Ironically enough, I found this erotic story surprisingly neat and tidy in its pacing, details and overall length, so much that I never felt I was whisked away from or dwindling too long on each scene, certainly not in terms of why one usually reads erotica. Whether it was rough banter amongst the memorable main characters, a minor diversion into the overarching mythos, or transparently keeping its priorities very much focused on detailing the plethora of hairy derri�re disciplining (with a sprinkling of more "vanilla" raunchiness here and there), the overall story stands alone very well as a kinky read - it also greatly helps that the package is so nicely and accurately presented with a gorgeous, flattering cover. So according to me at least, for anyone even slightly interested in man-on-werewolf spanking, this is a steal.

Best book of architecture I ever own it.

This book is very inspiring, it reminds me that we as architects should return and take the paper and pencil to draw the ideas you have on your mind. It also reminds me on how humanity should live together with nature and how architecture should be thought from nature and the air. Ando also taught me that there's no other ornamentation more than the natural shadows, light and wind that comes from the atmosphere and enter into the building.

Highly recommended to everyone, it's not other book of images that you can find from the internet. It's like Ando's private diary shared to us.

About the Author

Chelsea Clinton is currently the Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation and a Lecturer at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia. She completed her D.Phil in International Relations at Oxford University examining the first decade of the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria. She is also the author of It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!

Devi Sridhar is Professor at the University of Edinburgh's Medical School and holds the Chair in Global Public Health. Previously, she was Senior Research Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government and a Fellow of Wolfson College.

WHO would read this book? Only a Ghostreader would say it was good.

The "world of Global Health" is a world where there are more acronyms than cures these days. We face a world with extreme threat of pandemic diseases like drug-resistant TB or staph, and life expectancy in the U.S. is on the decline, which should surprise no one. But according to this book by Chelsea Clinton, the world just needs more "Public-Private Partnership" (PPP) schemes as promoted by the Clinton Foundation to eliminate diseases like HIV and improve infant mortality rates. When you kill off one set of people who provide your income, I guess you need new ones from another set to take their place, right?

As a writer, I believe no one should review any book they haven't read, and unless they got it from the library or a friend/family member, it should be a book they bought and paid for. So I purchased this book. Similarly to the recent book Stronger Together, by the co-author's mother and VP Candidate Tim Kaine, I read as much as I could of it and skimmed the rest.

This book is a very different matter to the obviously committee-written Stronger Together. This is a real book published by one of the most prestigious academic presses in the world. Yet, like the Nobel Prize in so many fields such economics (Paul Krugman) and peace (Barack Obama) and various prestigious branded publications or pollsters like Nate Cohn, Oxford UP is now a damaged brand.

I reached the 9th page of the introduction before realizing: this one seems as poorly-executed and thought out as "Stronger Together" -- how could this be possible? It's sentence after sentence with this structure: "We did xxx, YET yyy problem we need your money for is ..." First off, who is "We?" It sure as heck isn't Chelsea Clinton and her co-author Devi Sridhar. I'm guessing "we" means "Group of Global Elites who Prey on Poor Nations and non-privileged EU and US citizens". In Global Health acronym terms, that would be GGEPPN. I'll change that to GAGPEN for ease of memorization. Acronyms can be so funny! Did you know that the Haitian Earthquake Recovery Committee was ordered by the co-author's father to change its acronym from CHER to "HRC"? I wonder why ...

Second, I've written more than 20 nonfiction books for K-12 classrooms and libraries. The organization, analysis and writing both within this book's chapters and in choice of primary topics seems less-sophisticated than any of those, and I am including Tony Hawk: Business Mogul. The first chapter cites major public health problems like Ebola and Zika, but it's hard to follow the information and it simply gives the most basic "top of the web page fold" quotes from official sources. An average reader might think it's just a big chapter written to use acronyms like HSPH and LSHTM. We know HIV/AIDS but what about NCDs? Some people call those "Diseases of Society."

I can't take it any more. I really tried. I reached chapter three and skimmed the rest. The PPP stuff is all about the Clinton Foundation schemes with foreign drug manufacturers. If you know of a school forced to buy Epipens or Narcan emergency doses at high prices - these are these great "Public-Private Partnerships" and no, it doesn't tell you, the private individual, how you can cash in on poor kids with AIDS, Zika or Ebola. That's a specialty of the acronym people and especially the Clintons. If you're an average person, the book is just a bunch of gobbledygook, and if you're in the actual field of international health or just-plain health in your local community, my guess is it'll seem very out of touch and off-point.

To use the many acronyms in the book, with one found pretty much in every sentence, ODA pain of trying to read this book. NGO way could the average person get much out of this UN interesting, UN inspired volume. I wonder WHO could possibly finish it?

I'm guessing Dr. Clinton (She has a Ph.D. in international relations) needs to innovate a new employment category. You've heard of ghostwriters? She could really break ground and hire some ghostreaders.

Better than pepper spray.

I gave this away as a gift to someone that I never want to see or talk to again (Stage 5 Clinger), but I didn't want to tell them upfront and seem rude on Valentines day, so I picked up a copy of this at my local bookstore and had them wrap it up with really nice paper.

The expression on their face of disappointment when they unwrapped the gift probably ensures they'll never bother me again. They used to text me several times a day, now? Nothing! Perfect!

10/10 would recommend.

About the Author
The fantastic career of Marine warrant Officer Faustin H, Wirkus, 48, former Pittston PA, coal miner, who became king of a tropical isle, ended October 8, 1945 when he died in Brooklyn, NY, Naval Hospital. Wirkus ruled the island of La Gonave off Port au Prince from 1925 to 1929. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Plot: Sec: 10, Site: 10695. Born in Pittston, the son of a Polish-American mine worker, Wirkus was destined for the life of a coal miner, but he ran away at 18 and joined the marines. In 1925, when a gunnery sergeant, he was appointed Marine administrator of La Gonave to halt internal disputes among the 12,000 natives on the small island. La Gonave had had a king named Faustin. When Faustin Wirkus arrived the natives knelt before him and buxom Queen Ti Meminne pronounced him the reincarnation of the late ruler, Wirkus became king and wore a two-foot crown. He was admitted to voodoo rituals and acquired a deeper knowledge of black magic than any other white man of his time. Wirkus gained wide publicity when the late William Seabrook, novelist, visited La Gonave and wrote a book "The Magic Isle." As a result, officials of Haiti, which claimed jurisdiction over the Island of La Gonave, found out about this and forced Wirkus to abdicate in 1929. He was discharged from the Marine Corps later the same year. Later he wrote this book with Taney Dudley, "The White King of La Gonave," lectured and became a bond broker in New York. In 1937, he married an Atlanta woman, who with their 7-year old son survived him. Wirkus returned to the Marine Corps in 1939 as a recruiting specialist and in 1944 was appointed instructor in aviation gunnery at the Chapel Hill, NC, Marine station. Taney Dudley was born in August 1901 in New Orleans. Little is known about her except that she lived in Bronxville New York and on April 6, 1929 she took a boat from Port-au-Prince Haiti to New York arriving on April 11, 1929. She was apparently the ghost writer and editor of this book but this is never explained.

This is a fascinating true story of a U.S. Marine who through a bizarre chain of events becomes the , "White King" of La Gonave which is an island just off the coast of Haiti. He must have been an intelligent and good hearted soul and he tells a good story. I read a borrowed version of this years ago and am excited to see it back in print...
